Jerico is Expanding! New Fourth Building in the works

Jerico Is Expanding!

Surprise! We are overjoyed to announce that Jerico is in the early stages of acquiring a new fourth building!

but we need your help!

With the addition of this building, we’d be doubling our square footage and creating even more room for creative entrepreneurs, makers, artists, and small businesses to build, work, and grow.

When we started Jerico in 2014, our goal was to create more than just studio space. We wanted to create a community where creative people could have a place to make things, run their businesses, collaborate with one another, and connect with the broader Kalamazoo community. Over the years, that idea has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of, with 23 shared and individual studios across our three historic buildings.

But the dreaming hasn’t ended there.

A New Blank Slate

This fourth building is just south of our current buildings and is a true blank slate. It has 20-foot ceilings, concrete floors, and a whole lot of room for improvement, which means there is so much potential for different types of studios!

We’re excited to see this place come to life, but we also know that the best version of this building will be shaped by the people who use it.

We are working on financing the purchase of the building and it helps to show interest or even have some signed leases or letters of intent! If you’re interested in having a space at Jerico and would like to talk about an opportunity in this new building, we’ve created a Google Form where you can share a little about yourself, what you’re looking for, and what you’d love to see in a space like this.

We Want to hear from you.

We’re very open to conversations about what this could look like. Maybe you need a studio. Maybe you’re looking for a place to run your creative business. Maybe you have an idea for something we haven’t even thought of yet. We want to hear from you.

Building on What We’ve Learned

We’re excited to take everything we’ve learned from building out our first three buildings and bringing that expertise into this project. We have a lot of ideas for making this space even better, including soundproof walls, more shared and community space, and spaces designed with collaboration and flexibility in mind.

For more than 100 years, makers have filled these buildings with creativity and innovation, and we love that Jerico gets to continue that tradition. If you’ve seen our other buildings, you know we love a good transformation:

It’s Early Stages, so Follow Along

We’re still in the early stages, and this will be a big project that could take anywhere from the next few months to a year (or longer!). We’ll be sharing the process along the way—from the early ideas and planning to the messy middle and, eventually, watching this empty building fill up with all of you.

Jerico

Jerico is a community of creative entrepreneurs, makers, and artists founded by Krystal and Jeb Gast in 2014. Located in three historic buildings at the industrial edge of the Edison neighborhood in Kalamazoo, MI, the community is home to 23 shared and individual studio spaces currently occupied by a broad range of creative operations, including fine artist studios, an industrial design agency, video and music production studios, a rentable photography studio, coffee shop, yoga studio, tattoo shop and more.

We work to provide physical space and other opportunities to creatives and artists in Southwest Michigan. Our workshops, faire’s, art gallery, and private resident studios provide unique opportunities to the greater Kalamazoo community for artistic and creative experiences. Come see it for yourself!
