Bitters. Tinctures, And The Art Of Rejuvenation at The Clover room

Shake off the winter chill and join Angie Jackson, The Traveling Elixir Fixer, for a hands-on exploration of botanical medicine and flavor. As the earth wakes up, our bodies often crave a "spring cleaning." This workshop focuses on the traditional use of bitters and tinctures to spark digestion, support detoxification, and celebrate the vibrant energy of the new season.

In this session, we move beyond the bar cart to look at these potent liquids through the lens of seasonal rejuvenation. You’ll learn how to capture the fleeting essence of spring flora to create tonics that are as functional as they are flavorful.

What We’ll Cover

  • The Power of Bitter: Discover why "bitter is better" for spring health. We’ll discuss how bitter compounds interact with your digestive system to jumpstart metabolism and liver function.

  • The Tincture Technique: Master the fundamentals of folk-method extraction. We’ll cover alcohol percentages, maceration times, and how to choose the right solvent for your herbs.

  • Spring Botanicals: A deep dive into rejuvenating ingredients like Dandelion root, Burdock, Nettles, Lemon balm, and Wild Rose.

  • The Extraction Process: Understand the difference between a medicinal tincture (focused on a single herb's properties) and a complex digestive bitter (focused on flavor profiles and appetite).

The Workshop Experience

  • Tasting Flight: Sample a curated variety of house-made bitters to train your palate. We will learn to identify the "top," "heart," and "base" notes that create a balanced, professional-grade extract.

  • The Apothecary Bar: Get hands-on at our blending station. You’ll choose from an array of dried and fresh spring herbs—from bright citrus peels to earthy roots—to customize a blend that suits your personal wellness goals.

  • Craft & Take: Put your new skills into practice! Everyone will formulate, mix, and bottle their own 4oz custom Spring Digestive Bitter to take home and age.

  • Recipe Guide: You won't leave empty-handed. Receive a comprehensive digital handbook featuring our favorite rejuvenation formulas, infusion schedules, and creative cocktail/zero-proof elixir recipes.

Who Is This For?

  • Whether you are a budding herbalist, a DIY enthusiast, or a home bartender looking to add depth to your drinks, this workshop offers a grounded, sensory approach to plant magic. No prior experience is necessary—just a curiosity for the green world.

  • "In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt." — Margaret Atwood (In this workshop, we’ll aim for smelling like orange peel and dandelion instead.)

  • Moving into 2026, my primary goal is to ensure these workshops are as inclusive and welcoming as possible for our entire community. I believe that financial barriers should never stand in the way of growth and connection, which is why I am introducing a sliding fee scale ranging from $25 to $35. This flexible pricing model allows participants to choose the contribution level that best aligns with their current circumstances, ensuring that our shared space remains diverse, accessible, and centered on mutual support.
