Project Dewfall is a creative ensemble fusing elements of jazz into other creative atmospheres. Based in Grand Rapids, this ensemble is led by saxophonist Jacob DeWitt and hosts a lineup of musicians versed in West Michigan’s music culture.
The Quantum Committee Sextet blends traditional jazz with innovation and passion. Meeting in the Western Michigan jazz studies program, the six members initially started playing together purely for their love of the music. However, their intensity and commitment increased as they worked on original compositions and expanded their sound. Jacob Nowakowski (Bass), from Bartlett Illinois composes their original pieces while laying down the groundwork for the band. Rohan Marr (Drums) from West Chicago Illinois, and Caleb Downey (Piano) from Cadillac Michigan complete the rhythm section bringing a diversity of textures and fiery passion. Haden Bovee (Alto and Soprano Saxophone) from Middleville Michigan, Colin Woniewski (Trombone) from Byron Center Michigan, and Joji Klooster (Tenor Saxophone) from Redlands California complete the sextet, expanding the harmonic possibilities through their innovative soloistic ideas. Quantum, being inspired largely by jazz legends such as Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Ornette Coleman, and the John Coltrane Quartet seek to reflect these groups' fire, while also bringing a refreshing originality. With the rich history of Jazz as their inspiration interspersed with their individual skills and passion for playing together, the possibilities are endless.
